Thinking of joining?

Membership of the Plan is one of the most important benefits offered to Pearson employees. Full details of the Plan benefits and all the forms you need to complete are available in the Pension Pack.

How do I join?

This leaflet “How to join the Plan” summarises the differences between the two sections of the Plan available to new members, the Money Purchase 2003 section and the Auto Enrolment section and explains how to join the Plan.

Membership of the Money Purchase 2003 section of the Plan is offered to all new full and part-time UK employees of the Pearson Group who:

  • are aged 22 or over
  • are under State Pension Age, and
  • who earn over £10,000 a year (£833 a month)

See the Money Purchase 2003 section booklet for full details of the benefits available in the Money Purchase 2003 section.

When you start employment with Pearson, you will be asked to complete an application form on which you are asked to indicate whether you wish to join the Money Purchase 2003 section.

If you do not return the form to your Human Resources Department and you meet the earnings and age criteria above you will automatically be entered as a member of the Auto Enrolment section of the Plan (NB not the Money Purchase 2003 section). If you do not meet the auto enrolment criteria you may still choose to join the Auto Enrolment section. See the Auto Enrolment section booklet for full details of the benefits available in the Auto Enrolment section. The booklet will also explain how you can opt-in to or opt-out of joining the Auto Enrolment Section.

If you have applied to HMRC for protection in respect of your pension benefits you should contact the Pensions Department to discuss the options available to you as joining the Plan, may prejudice your protection.
